<他 / 她是 He / She is>

Appearances help us recognize the identities of person due to their unique facial features. In fact, it is undependable and indefinite, as identities change in different situations. There is a time when we encounter a person, who gives us a sense of having met before, yet we are unable to recap his or her identity.
The work displays a series of some familiar “TV characters” through an animated approach on facial drawing. It leads viewers to explore the original identities of faces; and creates a relevant platform to re-experience the feeling of familiarity.

< BEYOND THIS >

Comics
23cm x 27cm

This world is filled with illusions and mysteries. I believe spiritual growth could lead us to the ultimate truth. Although the truth is very valuable to all mankind, most of us are unaware of a bigger world beyond the existing reality, like the characters living in the comic world. Comic as a medium could provide us a perspective to experience a new but similar world as an outsider from a God’s view. In this spiritual comic series, I try to pose questions towards the “reality” and express my beliefs.

This is a work that I have developed from a project. It is an ongoing project about finding memories/presence of my mother, who have died when I was 2. The work consist of small pieces that separately deny my mother’s death, recapture her presence, fictionalize the coexistence of me and her, fabricate the stories of her and familiarize her with audiences.

Endless Isolation >

Resin, acrylic, rice paper and ink200cm x 400cm each (2 pcs)

I still remember when I took the train in Germany; I sat near the driver. The woods that were surrounding the train are so silent. For me, it was the first time travelling through a forest. During the journey, I thought the forest should be full of life and vitality. However, what I felt was the silence and well-arranged trees.The first thought came to my mind was the destruction from wars. This kind of silence was full of grief and pain. I had the same feeling when I walked through an underground street in Japan. I connect of my death experience and the grief. Also, we can see how the souls buried and transformed in the flourish city. This is what history tries to tell us and how worthy it is.
